Greetings from Peterborough! Submitted by Julie Stoneberg, September 2007
I’ve learned that summer in Ontario is meant for breaking from the routine, slowing down, and connecting with the natural world. While I have done almost no ‘slowing down’ this summer, and have made little more than a perfunctory connection with nature, I definitely broke from the routine! I guess that one out of three is not bad for a relative newcomer!
July was a whirlwind month…beginning with an intense few days of preparing my house for the market, then a four-day family reunion (hampered substantially by my brother having a minor heart attack), a quick trip to Peterborough to find a place to live, and then a very intense week of seeing friends and packing before loading a truck and driving northeast. (Did I use the word ‘intense’ twice in that sentence?) I arrived in Peterborough with just enough time to move into my apartment before beginning my ministry here on August 1. Let’s just say that I am happy that July is behind me!
How were your summers? While I know it was not an easy season for everyone, I trust that many of you, as seasoned Ontarians, were able to do all three ‘normal’ summer things, and that you find yourselves rested and enthusiastic about the new church year.
Repeatedly, in just a few short weeks here in Peterborough, I have been made aware of all that I learned and experienced in my ministry with you, and I am grateful. With an abiding faith in each of you and a persistent vision of a thriving future for Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship, I send you my blessings and my love.
