Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility is a subject that is very important to Lakehead Unitarian.

The recent issue of "JUST NEWS" ( Number 26- Autumn 2013) contains a discussion paper  called " Call for Peace between Israel and Palestine" by the Rev. Frances Deverell with support from CUSJ Working group. You can download a copy of the paper from The table of contents include o.a. the Current situation , Theological grounds for action and Human Rights effecting the People and the Land.
Unitarians are encouraged to support the boycott campaign "Unsettling Goods" targeting products made in the Israeli settlements in the illegally occupied zones in Palestine by KETER ( plastics – garden tools and  toolboxes ), AHAVA, cosmetics and skin care products and SODASTREAM-(carbonated juice makers ).
The action is also supported by the United Church of Canada . Letters have been written to retailers of these products in Thunder Bay. The campaign is hoping to create understanding of a desperate situation involving the flagrant disregard of Human Rights and UN Declarations. A study of the complete report is highly recommended and will increase understanding of the complex issues which make a Peace process  under the present circumstances near impossible.
